The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Houston Rockets in overtime last night, earning the seventh seed in the Western Conference Playoffs with Mike D’Antoni in the seat as the Lakers’ head coach.
Sources confirm to ESPN that Phil Jackson, who owns a record 11 championship rings, is “itching” to return to the NBA in some capacity. It’s possible he takes on a front office gig, but a head-coaching job is likely his first choice. If the Lakers are not an option, look for the Brooklyn Nets to once again go hard after Jackson.
If the Los Angeles Clippers let Vinnie Del Negro go, the Clippers can become an option for Jackson. He’s in the final year of his contract and not beloved by players and it would create a positively awesome setup if Jackson returns to Los Angeles as the Lakers’ rival.
